I’m so excited to get a chance to learn with you all starting Monday. To better direct the class, I was wondering. What kinds of things are you excited to learn? And, if you’re comfortable talking about your fears, are there any parts of the course you’re worried about?
Hello Jessica, I am most excited to learn about how CSS and HTML work together to make a page. The only thing I really worry about is the aesthetics of design. The technical I’m sure I can get but knowing how to make a web page actually look good would be my biggest challenge.
My fear is thinking I understand everything in the moment, but when the time comes to do anything on my own for the first time I’ll just end up staring at the screen. It’s one thing to do an exercise or watch a video, but actually transferring that into something I “know how to do” can be rough for me.
I’m looking forward to Monday! I have Atom installed and a tea cup ready to go.
Want to learn more structure and design.
get better at flexbox layouts...
I'm also taking the javascript course with Ramon. He said you were awesome.
Want to learn about grid and get better at responsive web design
Excited to delve into more than just the basics of HTML. CSS especially! To echo what @Shawn brought up, the application of knowledge can be a struggle, so that is for sure one of my fears. All the lessons and knowledge seem to vanish when presented with a blank screen.
Good news, I am terrible at design so we can both worry about this together!
So I’m going to be (nicely?) mean through the videos and push you to do stuff on your own. I had a very similar problem when I started in tech, so the streams are designed in a way where we’ll start together but then you’ll have to carry on by yourself. But don’t worry! You can always ask for help here in the forums and there are lots of hints in the fCC sandbox to keep you from getting too stuck, I promise.
Counterpoint: he is the awesome one!
Same! We can get better at them together!
Hi!
Well my problem is that the classes are at 2 in the morning. I know we can watch the recording but if I have questions is where my concern is. I think it will be okay. I didn’t realize this was a worldwide event. Very exciting!
In general, I am good at following lectures, but practical applications are my weakness. This fuels my fears. Also, I, as many others, am busy with other stuff, and I am worried that I might get overwhelmed.
Nevertheless, I am excited about this opportunity. Hope during the bootcamps I’ll learn how to make my own website and run it smoothly; and learn to make many other useful htmls…
Thanks a million, and good luck to everyone!
Even if you do need to take a break and come back, it’ll still be ok! The videos and the sandbox won’t go away if you take a break, you won’t lose any of your progress. We’re trying to make sure that this is as low stress for you all as possible!
Hello Jessica, I am most excited about learning HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, what I’m most afraid of is the timing of the live classes because of the time zones… hoping you guys will consider readjusting it so folks like us can keep up with the timing.
The same thing goes with me.
Hello @jesslynnrose , will there be any group project for those who made it to the last week or everything is individually all through? and is there any other group for class discussions or networking etc?
Same! re practical vs tutorials. I think that’s why the projects are good, but still no real-world coding job practical.
I’m worried about:
- staying motivated when class is over (it’s been a nice 2 month break)
- creating code that is hacked together (especially CSS) vs simple and straightforward (the goal), and where to get that feedback
On the upside, I’m really looking forward to this new beta version and format!
This is my first cohort, so I am so so excited, let’s just begin. I just set my time, the countdown is on for me, can’t wait to start with this great tech family.
